Football: Spanish Springs Holds On To Beat Douglas (PHOTOS)
MINDEN, Nev. — Spanish Springs fought back from an early deficit and then held off a late Douglas rally to defeat the Tigers 26-20 Friday evening in Minden.
Douglas got on the board first on a touchdown pass from Hunter Hickey to Devon Ryan.
Spanish Springs cut the score to 7-6 on its drive, scoring on a 23-yard run.
Hickey later scored on a 40-yard run before halftime, putting Douglas up 13-6, but a pair of third quarter scores vaulted Spanish Springs into the lead.
The Cougars capped their scoring with a fumble return for a touchdown with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
Hickey later punched in his second rushing touchdown of the game and Douglas had the ball for a chance to tie or go-ahead in the final minutes, but Spanish Springs came up with a stop to preserve the win.
Douglas dropped to 0-3 on the season and will travel to North Valleys this coming Friday.
