Douglas County Grand Jury Indicts Man On Charges Of Sexual Assault Against A Minor

MINDEN, Nev. — The Douglas County Grand Jury issued an indictment Wednesday accusing Juan Gabriel Ramirez-Vargas, age 45, of committing the crimes of sexual assault of a child under 14 years of age and lewdness with a child under 14 years of age.
The minor victim’s identity is confidential by law. The victim is identified in the indictment by the pseudonym of “Minor-17-001.”
The case has been assigned to Department One of the Ninth Judicial District Court.
Ramirez-Vargas’ arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. All proceedings in the East Fork Justice Court have been stayed as a result of the indictment.
Ramirez-Vargas is currently incarcerated in the Douglas County Jail, where he has been since being extredited from Oregon on April 28.
He was arrested in Oregon on March 24 on a warrant issued out of the East Fork Justice Court. His bail is set at $50,000 cash only. The crimes are alleged to have been committed in 2016 between March 17 and March 21.
The Douglas County Grand Jury first convened in January. The Grand Jury’s duties include inquiring into public offenses triable in the Ninth Judicial District Court. All proceedings before the Grand Jury are confidential until such time as an indictment is issued or a report is made.
