MINDEN, Nev. — The Reno High baseball team scratched together a 5-3 win over Douglas in Minden Friday afternoon.
Christian Chamberlain hit a two-run home run to right field in the first inning for Reno but Douglas answered back with a run-scoring groundout from Haydn Brown and Haden Keller scoring from third on a dropped third strike.
The game stayed locked at two through three innings Reno plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
Douglas cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth when a Kindel Isham single to center field scored Tristan Futch.
Douglas High’s Tristan Futch hit what would have been a game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth but Reno left fielder Sawyer Jaksick reached over the fence and caught the ball for the out, colliding with the fence in the process and sustaining a cut above his eye.
Reno added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and held on for the win.
