MINDEN, Nev. — After falling to Reno High School 10-7 in the first game of doubleheader Monday afternoon,  the Douglas High softball team battled back with two outs in the final inning of Game 2 to avoid a sweep.

The Tigers trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the seventh and tallied a pair of groundouts within the first five pitches of the final frame.

Douglas’ Amanda Hoffman reached on a single and advanced to second on a base hit from Haley Doughty. Casey Peck hit a two-strike line drive to left field, bringing Hoffman around for the tying run.

And Kettja Bennett belted a sharp grounder into center fielder bring Doughty in for the winning run.

Doughty had three hits and Bennett had a home run and three RBIs in the win to lead the Tigers at the plate. B Walters drove in another two runs.

Bennett struck out seven and walked two while scattering two hits and only one earned run in six innings of work. Hoffman grabbed the win with one hitless inning of relief.
