Staff Reports · 1 min read
SPARKS, Nev. — The Spanish Springs and Douglas baseball teams tangled in a back-and-forth battle for the second time in three days Saturday, with the Cougars prevailing 10-9 in extra innings.
Douglas built a 6-0 lead through three and a half innings and later extended it to 8-3 but Spanish Springs roared back to tie the game at eight in the bottom of the sixth.
The game stayed knotted there until the ninth, when Haden Keller scored on a bases-loaded walk to Ayden Murphy, giving the Tigers a 9-8 lead over Spanish Springs.
A pair of run-scoring singles in the bottom of the ninth sealed the win for Spanish Springs though.
Keller homered and went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Tigers at the plate.
Haydn Brown doubled and went 2-for-4, Spencer Trivitt and Murphy each drove in one run and Tristan Futch had three runs scored to go with three RBIs.
Douglas junior varsity fell 12-1 to Spanish Springs on Saturday in Minden.
Zak Korzeniewski, Caden Hultberg and Camden Brown collected Douglas’ hits in the game.
