GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Carrying just over 39 percent of the vote, Gardnerville Ranchos eatery The Grill Next Door claimed the title for Carson Valley’s Signature Soup — becoming the third soup to win the crown in three years.

It held off previous defending champions Cafe Girasole (Sweet Potato Curry claimed 23 percent of the vote) and Fully Belly Deli (Baked Potato Soup took 20 percent of the vote).

In about a week, we’ll resume our search for Carson Valley’s signature steak, prime rib or beef dish with Beef Wars 2017.

We have created a virtual throwdown among Valley restaurants, seeking out the signature dishes Carson Valley has to offer. Through the first year, we covered burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, soups, steaks, salads, appetizers, breakfasts, pasta, dessert and fried foods (you can see the results here).

Nominees should come from locally unique restaurants. Nominees should be within the CVT coverage area (the Douglas-Carson line to the north, the foot of the Carson Range to the west, the Pine Nuts to the east and the state line to the south).
