Flood Warning Expires In Carson Valley

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Tuesday, 6 p.m. update — Centerville Road between Highway 88 and Foothill Road was shut down Tuesday  afternoon due to water over the roadway. Douglas County also closed Nye Road and Johnson Lane Wash.

Heavy rainfall diminished around Western Nevada before noon Tuesday, though rain showers are expected to continue through the remainder of the day.

A flood warning in effect for most of the day expired at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

A high wind warning for the Valley was cancelled before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Up to two inches of rain fell overnight across the Carson Range, with up to a half-inch along the Highway 395 corridor, according to the National Weather Service.

The greatest threat for flooding is near creeks, streams, ditches, urban areas, construction sites, farmland and pastures.

Motorists should be prepared for ponding of water on roads during the course of the flood warning. Some locations that will experience flooding include Minden, Gardnerville, and Gardnerville Ranchos.

Rain is expected to stick around in the forecast through the remainder of the week.

A power pole fire and a pair of blown transformers knocked out power to a number of NV energy customers in the Fish Springs area early Tuesday morning.

Nine NV Energy customers in Douglas County were without power during the course of the day. Power had been restored as of 4:30 p.m. to all but two customers, with the remainder estimated to be restored by 6 p.m.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
