Baseball: Douglas Sweeps Doubleheader From Hug
RENO, Nev. — The Douglas High School baseball team improved to 5-10 in Northern Division I play, sweeping a doubleheader from Hug Saturday in Reno.
Douglas grabbed an early lead against Hug in Game 1 and never looked back, winning 9-3.
Spencer Trivitt and Haydn Brown each drove in a pair of runs and each doubled in the win. Isaiah Schat had an RBI and Brown had a trio of singles in the win. Jayden Foster added a pair of singles.
Schat picked up the win on the mound, striking out five and walking three.
Brown took the ball in Game 2 and struck out seven in pitching a complete game. He walked one and scattered four hits.
Haden Keller hit a home run and drove in three runs, Schat doubled three times, Hunter Simpson singled three times, Ayden Murphy and Kendall Isham each drove in a pair of runs and Schat, Trivitt and Simpson each drove in two runs.
Douglas next travels to Wooster for a 3:45 p.m. game on Tuesday.
Zach Romero was the winning pitcher shutting out the Hug Hawks in an 11-0 win. He gave up only two hits and struck out 3. Tristan Futch led the Tiger hitting attack with a double and a triple, driving in two runs and scoring three. Sean Dunkelman had two hits and two RBIs. Elijah Hinojosa had a hit and 2 RBIs. Brandon Koyama had an RBI double.
In the second game, Douglas beat Hug 13-3.
Dunkelman was the winning Tiger pitcher, giving up one earned run while striking out nine over six innings. Dario Watroba had three hits and scored three runs.
Sloane Niccoli had two hits, three RBIs and scored two runs. Conner Lozano had a single, two RBIs, and scored two runs. Byron Fair had two hits, scored two runs and had two RBIs. Elijah Hinojosa added two hits and three RBIs.
