Carson Valley’s Signature Soup For 2016: “Sweet Potato Curry” From Abby Jo’s Cafe Girasole

Staff Reports

MINDEN, Nev. — Abby Jo’s Cafe Girasole made it back-to-back wins in CVT Wars, winning our 2016 Search For Carson Valley’s Signature Soup with its “Sweet Potato Curry.”

The Cafe repeated its title in Sandwich Wars last month with it’s Marchello Sandwich.

The Sweet Potato Curry carried 43 percent of the vote this year, beating out CV Steak’s “Lobster Bisque,” defending champion Full Belly Deli’s “Baked Potato Soup,” and the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room’s “Tongue Stew” in order.

We have created a virtual throwdown among Valley restaurants, seeking out the signature dishes Carson Valley has to offer. Through the first year, we covered burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, soups, steaks, salads, appetizers, breakfasts, pasta, dessert and fried foods (you can see the results here).

Nominees had to come locally unique restaurants, within the CVT coverage area (the Douglas-Carson line to the north, the foot of the Carson Range to the west, the Pine Nuts to the east and the state line to the south).

As always, we encourage you to get out and try all of the finalists and honorable mentions.
