Carson Valley’s Signature Sandwich For 2015: ‘The Marchello’ From Cafe Girasole

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Congratulations to Abby Jo’s Cafe Girasole in Gardnerville on defending its CVT Sandwich Wars title.

“The Marchello,” a panini packed with provolone, turkey, carmelized onions, artichoke hearts, roasted tomatoes, garlic aioli and pesto,  edged out Minden Meat & Deli’s “Tri Tip Sandwich” by seven votes to claim the 2015 crown.

We have created a virtual throwdown among Valley restaurants, seeking out the signature dishes Carson Valley has to offer. Through the first year, we covered burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, soups, steaks, salads, appetizers, breakfasts, pasta, dessert and fried foods (you can see the results here).

Nominees had to come from locally unique restaurants and be within the CVT coverage area (the Douglas-Carson line to the north, the foot of the Carson Range to the west, the Pine Nuts to the east and the state line to the south).

As always, we encourage you to get out and try the finalists and honorable mentions listed.

Up next month, we’ll be reopening the search for Carson Valley’s Signature Soup. Start thinking of your potential nominees.

The best part… you don’t have to travel 1,795 miles to get this Louisiana favorite.
