Fourth Of July Events Schedule For Carson Valley

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — A variety of events are planned to celebrate the Fourth of July in Minden, Gardnerville and Genoa – as well as the surrounding region Saturday.

Town of Gardnerville and Main Street Gardnerville Freedom 5k Fun Run/Walk at Heritage Park
— Race begins at 8 a.m. Patriotic attire encouraged. Cost is $15 in advance, $20 the day of the event. Veterans and active military are free. Yankee Doodle Dash obstacle course free for kids 12 and under. Registration forms can be found here.
– Carson Valley Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, $7, (8-10 a.m.)
– Presentation by Nevada Magazine (between 9:30 and 10 a.m.)

– Carson Valley Pops in the Park,11:30 a.m.: The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra is bringing back their traditional July Fourth Concert in the Park. Bring your picnic and a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the patriotic line up of traditional July Fourth tunes.

The Pops Orchestra will be joined by the Voices of the Sierra Choir, led by Rodger Banes. The program will include “The Star Spangled Banner”, “Salute to the Armed Forces” , “American Salute to the American Frontier”, “Ghosts of Antietam”, “Battle Hymn of the Republic” , “Semper Fidelis” and of course “ The Stars and Stripes Forever”.

Genoa Americana Celebration: Mormon Station State Historic Park (GVFD), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, featuring five traditional music groups and will conclude with a performance by the Carson Symphony Orchestra with McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain. The celebration kicks off in the at 10 a.m. with a children’s parade and musical performances by Wild Horse Drive, the Gabardine Sisters, the Steve Hayes Dixieland jazz band, the Six Mule Pile-Up string band and The Kepple Band. The Genoa Americana Celebration is sponsored by the Traditional American Music Project, Friends of Genoa and the Town of Genoa. For details and information about this event, please visit

Chicken BBQ: Genoa Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD), 12 Noon to 6 p.m. The meal includes 1/2 BBQ chicken, cole slaw, baked potato and dinner roll for $12. Beverages are sold separately. Tickets are available from the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department.

Town of Minden 4th of July Celebration and Patriotic Children’s Bike Parade sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn at Minden Park
10 a.m.: Event kick-off

10:05 a.m.: National Anthem, presented by Skip Brown, “Proud To Be An American” sung by Ariel Rose

10:15 a.m. Retirement of the Colors.

10:20 a.m.: Bike decorating begins on 5th street, Bounce houses open up.

10:55 a.m. “Little Tykes” line up at 5th and Esmeralda Avenue.

11 a.m.: Little Tykes Bike Parade starts, ending at Mono and 5th Street.

11:05 a.m.: “Big Kids” line up at 5th and Esmeralda Avenue

11:15 a.m.: “Big Kids” Parade starts. Children can make as many laps around the park as they wish.
11:25 a.m.: Nevada Magazine presents “Best Town” recognition to Minden and Gardnerville.

11:30 a.m.: Free Hot Dogs and Hamburgers provided by the Carson Valley Inn. Beverages can be purchased from the Carson Valley Kiwanis – all proceeds go toward Valley youth Ethan McKinney.

12:30 p.m. Musical Games and Activities with Bill McClain, balloon animal tent opens.
1 p.m.: Complimentary apple pie provided by the Town of Minden, and popsicles provided by Model Dairy.

The ‘Lights on the Lake’ Fireworks show starts at dusk at Lake Tahoe.

Fireworks are planned at dusk at Mills Park. Music to accompany the fireworks will be simulcast on Magic 95.5 FM radio.
