GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Crews knocked down a fire at a home on Hornet Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos Monday evening shortly after 9:35 p.m. A second alarm was initially issued, then cancelled as first-responders quickly controlled the scene. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any further updates on that today.

A Special Olympics baseball team is being organized with practice scheduled for this evening at 6 p.m. at Scarselli Elementary School in the Ranchos. Baseball gloves are encouraged, but there will be extras on hand if participants don’t have one.

It’s Farmers Market night in Minden with the Mindenfest Esmeralda Avenue Farmers Market running from 4 to 8 p.m. The Douglas County Public Library will kick off its summer reading program with “The Wishing Well” presented by the Brüka Theatre at 6:30 p.m. at the CVIC Hall. The “Books Are Fun” Book Fair will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and the Douglas County Library Foundation will host an ice cream social from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

The Douglas County School District Board of Trustees will meet this afternoon at 3:30, though the venue has been changed to Gardnerville Elementary School due to continued construction at Douglas High School.

Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast today with a 30 percent chance of actual precipitation. The high is set at 89 degrees with light afternoon west winds. The chance of showers increases to 80 percent on Wednesday before we return to mostly clear skies and temperatures in the high 80s or low 90s through Carson Valley Days.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day.
