GARDNERVILLE, Nev., June 8, 2015 — The Overland Restaurant & Pub officially opens in downtown Gardnerville this morning at 11 a.m.

Overland

We had the opportunity to try it out during one of several previews they offered over the weekend. Inside, you’ll find immense detail in historic preservation, from turn of the 20th century vintage maps of Carson Valley to striking portraits of some of the Valley’s founding forefathers. Much of the building has been restored to its original state as possible, with exposed brick walls throughout the interior and the original hardwood flooring and tin-stamped ceiling.

The menu, as many have asked, features a farm-to-table flavor with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and items such as shepherd’s pie, bison burgers, fried chicken, skirt steak and more. It is not a Basque restaurant, though the ownership group has said they’ll have Basque-themed specials on occasion.

I got through most of might white chocolate bread pudding before I thought to take a picture of it – so here’s just a preview. The portions were very generous overall.

Speaking of food, we will be launching our search for Carson Valley’s Signature Salad later this morning, so keep an eye out for Salad Wars.

The trend of rain and thunder of the past couple days will break today with a high of 90 degrees and clear skies in the forecast. We have a pretty strong chance of rain sitting around Wednesday, but the rest of the week should be relatively clear as of this moment.

The Douglas summer league baseball team travels to the Sierra Sundevils at Wooster High School in Reno for a 5 p.m. game tonight.

We have quite a slate of stories to get to today, so keep an eye out for those.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day.
