MINDEN, Nev. — Encouraged to leave no opportunity behind, to continually find ways to give back and to leave no trial unchallenged, Douglas High School’s nearly 360 graduates for 2015 took their first steps into the real world Friday night during commencement exercises on campus.

Student speaker Ross Hatley noted for his fellow graduates that commencement indeed marks, and means, a beginning and not an end.

“Your future lies just off this stage,” he said, urging his classmates to leave no “what if” questions unanswered as they proceed through the many great walks in life.

“Each of us has been shaped by our experience at Douglas,” Senior class president Montrashay Worley said. “Douglas as a community has taught us to give back.”

Salutatorian Olivia Abbott delivered her entire speech in poetic verse, tributing Dr. Seuss and encouraging classmates to “Live with integrity and always be fair.” and to “face up to your problems, whatever they are.

Valedictorian Lindsey Adams spoke from Psalm 139: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

“Exit this place knowing how prized you are,” she said. “When you leave here, you will continue to leave an imprint on others’ lives.”

Carson Valley Times contributing photographer Ron Harpin sent in a substantial number of photos from the graduation ceremony below. He also captured a majority of the nearly-360 graduates receiving their diplomas, which we just simply didn’t have room for here. You can purchase prints or digital downloads of any of Ron’s photos at www.rahphotosnv.com. Check back to his site in the coming days as he loads the remainder of diploma photos.
