Swimming: Koontz Wins 100 Fly State Title; Douglas Boys Finish 3rd At State

The Douglas High School swimming & diving program closed out its season with a couple of individual state championships at the Carson Aquatic Facility on Saturday.

Palo Verde won the boys and girls team state titles, with the Douglas boys finishing third and the Douglas girls tying for fifth with Galena.

Andre Mendes, Ryan Chen, Kevin Smithen and Joe Sullivan won the state championship in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.54. Mendes was the state runner-up in the 100 fly (53.09).

On the girls’ side, Shelby Koontz won the state title in the 100 Fly by more than two seconds (55.80) and placed second in the 200 IM (2:04.48).
