Carson Valley’s Signature Appetizer For 2015: Saletti’s Calamari
It was close the whole way, but a surge late in the week pushed Saletti’s and its macadamia-nut-encrusted calamari steak to the top of the list as Carson Valley’s Signature Appetizer of 2015. The dish carried nearly 46 percent of the vote in claiming the win.
Our four finalists were certainly all worthy contenders and even more worthy of getting out and trying for yourself. That’s the point of what why we do all this, to get hungry people into local eateries to enjoy the dishes created locally.
Up next month, we think this one is going to cause quite a debate: We’ll be looking for Carson Valley’s Signature Breakfast. Start thinking of your nominees now. Calamari steak rolled in homemade macadamia nut bread crumbs and sauteed golden brown. Topped with lemon chive Beurre Blanc.
Grill Next Door: “BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders”

Homemade coleslaw, hand-crafted pulled pork in house barbecue sauce with a Carolina-style tinge, and French-fried onions on a Hawaiian sweet roll. Not much more needs to be said.
Philadelphia Restaurant & Sandwich Company: “Meatballs & Garlic Toast”
Hours: Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday & Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
The meatballs are made fresh every day with ground beef, ground pork and topped with house marinara and cheese, served with toast.
CV Steak: “Sampler Platter”
Hours: Tuesday-Sunday 4:30-9:30 p.m., 775-783-6650
The perfect way to sample four of CV Steak’s favorite appetizers – Shrimp, Crab Cake, Warm Spinach Dip and Ahi Tuna. Prepared for either two or four people.
