The Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) will host the grand opening of the new Pinyon Trail at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Pinyon Trailhead, located 6.7 miles south of Gardnerville on Pinenut Road. The opening activities are free and open to the public. In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 21.

CVTA and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will brief guests about the Pinyon Trail, trail construction and trail use. Informational displays and trail brochures will be available and complimentary breakfast snacks will be provided. Following the briefing, guests are invited to explore the 5-mile trail on a guided hiking, mountain biking or equestrian tour, or head out and explore the trail on their own.

Hand-constructed by volunteers, the Pinyon Trail is a 5.2-mile, non-motorized single track recreational trail designed for hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians and dogs. The trail wraps around a large hill, with continuous views of the Pine Nut and Carson Ranges. Nevada’s state tree, the single-leaf pinyon pine, grows through the trail system, along with Utah junipers. The trail elevation ranges from 5700 feet at the trailhead to about 6060 feet, and has a gentle grade of about 5 percent.
