GARDNERVILLE, Feb 13, 2015 — East Fork Firefighters responded to the scene of a reported barn fire on Wagon Wheel Court in the Ranchos at 2:18 a.m. Friday.

The 1,000 square foot structure was fully involved when crews arrived on the scene. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office evacuated the house next to the barn while crews fought the fire. The primary residence received no damage and the occupants of the house have returned home.

A friend of the family reported the barn belonged to Debra Ross of Pet Sitters Plus, known for her work with CASA, Austin’s House and Safe Haven Animal Rescue (fostering of dogs). They recently lost huge pine tree and fencing in windstorm as well.
They are in need of hay, but without means to store it, owners of Pet Sitters Plus said they will buy their hay at Eastern Sierra Feed month by month. Donations can be made to Eastern Sierra Feed.

East Fork kept a significant number of resources at the scene to assist in overhauling the fire due to the amount of hay and other materials involved with the barn.

Battalion Chief Scott Fraser is the incident commander with a safety officer, 3 engines, 3 rescues, a truck and a squad committed to the scene for a total of 17 personnel. Carson City maintained coverage of the remainder of the district on the north side of the county.

No injuries have been reported to civilians, firefighters or animals. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
