GARDNERVILLE, Nev., February 2, 2015 – A happy Groundhog Day to everyone.

Out in Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on this morning (despite overcast skies), thus predicting six more weeks of winter.

Back here in Nevada, our Spring-like conditions ramp up this week with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low- to mid-60s through Thursday at least.

And that’s why you don’t trust a groundhog with the weather.

The National Weather Service is giving us a chance of rain Friday and Saturday, but hasn’t yet assigned any percentage value to it. Needless to say, we’ll be keeping an eye on that all week.

Football season came to a thrilling end Sunday evening with the Seattle Seahawks apparently believing running back Marshawn Lynch had bolted for Free Agency just seconds before the decisive play of the game from only one-yard out.

We now have a 17-day stretch before pitchers and catchers start reporting for Major League spring training camps across Florida and Arizona. And the Cycle of Sport continues.

Our monthly virtual food throwdowns continue today with the opening of the nomination round in our search for Carson Valley’s Signature Steak. We’ll also accept prime rib, or any fine dining dish that involves beef. Keep an eye out for the initial ballot, probably early this afternoon.
