Soup Wars

Voting was close and spirited throughout the week, but Full Belly Deli, just under a year into its new location on Highway 395 in Minden, hauled in 36.95 percent of the vote to claim the Soup Wars title for 2015 with its “Baked Potato Soup.”

It joins burgers, pizzas and sandwiches in the winner’s circle.

Congratulations to the staff there.

With it being the month of taking your love out for a fine dinner, we will be looking for Carson Valley’s Signature Beef Dinner, whether it be steak, prime rib, smoked Tri-Tip or otherwise. The top-selling soup in the restaurant, it’s a creamy concoction made with coconut milk, sweet potatoes, and a hint of curry. Available every day.

“Tongue Stew” – J.T. Basque Bar & Dining Room

Hours: Monday-Friday 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; 5-9 p.m.; Saturday 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; 4:30-9 p.m.

A longtime Gardnerville tradition stretching out over more than 50 years, the J.T. has served up Basque delights and Valley mainstays to hundreds and hundreds of thousands over the years. The beef tongue stew is served on Friday nights. We had some technical difficulties with the photo – we’ll get that solved up shortly.

This tomato seafood stew includes clams, mussels, calamari and shrimp brought in fresh whenever the Ranchos hot spot makes it.
