Josephine (Oma) Christen

1926-2014

Josephine (Oma) passed away peacefully July 24, 2014. She was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1958. She is survived by her son Werner, granddaughters Britney and Lisa, and sister in law Josephine Markreiter.

Josephine was known to most as Oma. She was always willing to make you a warm meal with a cookie while telling you a great story. Her laugh was infectious and her accent made everyone smile. She cared for her son more than anyone in the world and her granddaughters adored her more than humanly possible.

Early in life, Oma lived in the outskirts of Munich, Germany. She survived the war and met her late husband Bill while playing accordion for U.S. soldiers. She had her son on a U.S. air-force base in England and shortly moved to the United States in 1958.

Oma enjoyed spending time with her family by cooking with her granddaughters in the kitchen and watching her son coach basketball. She also loved watching her granddaughters play soccer and basketball. She was always on the sideline and rarely missed a game. She loved animals, especially her two dogs, cat, and frogs. She also loved watching the birds in her front yard eat off the bird bell and use the bird bath.

Oma was an amazingly strong and wonderful woman. Her celebration memorial will be held on August 7, 2014 at 1329 Wheeler way in Gardnerville, Nevada at 5:30 pm. The family asks for the people attending to wear light colors as it will be a celebration of life to honor this amazing woman.
