Photo Essay: Lifts Off, Skins On

Our friend Scott Rokis, who you may remember from his trip last fall to document an attempted swim across the Sea of Cortez, recently worked up an excellent photo essay on a tour of Heavenly in mid-April. “Skins” are used for climbing and going uphill on skis.

He begins: “On April 14th, Heavenly Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe, CA closed its lifts for the season. Four days later, Lake Tahoe received 8”-16” of fresh, springtime snow. The choice was clear. I’d call up a couple of good friends, grab a camera, skin up and take a tour through thousands of acres of clean, untouched ski runs.”
