We spent another weekend making minor tweaks and fixes to the actual appearance of the site. New this week, you’ll find the “News of Record” category on the left-hand column. We started with our first installment of birth announcements from Carson Tahoe Health on Friday (see those at this link).

We’ll be looking to open this category up with more items in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that.

It’s supposed to be mostly sunny today with a high of 60, but the National Weather Service is giving us a prediction of rain starting tonight and lasting through Thursday. That’s quite a storm, if it comes to fruition.

As part of Douglas County’s continuing effort to address the area’s deteriorating roads, a public workshop will be held this evening at the Topaz Ranch Estates Volunteer Fire Station, 1476 Albite Drive at 6 p.m. to share information about the funding issues for county road repair and maintenance and to collect public feedback. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer forum.

If you don’t feel like driving out to Topaz, they’ll do it all again Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The Douglas High boys and girls basketball teams will go through their final round of tryouts this afternoon and evening and will probably emerge with final rosters sometime  early, early Tuesday morning. Both staffs face tough decisions as the boys’ program had 70 athletes out competing for a maximum of 45 spots between the varsity, JV and freshman levels. The girls program had 40 athletes trying out on Saturday.

Both programs open their season in the first week of December.

This will be an insanely busy week as we have no less than 10 stories lined up on top of whatever else might walk through the door. We’ll play it cagey on what exactly we have coming up, but here’s a teaser of what we were up to last night:

That’s CVT editor Joey Crandall with the goofy grin and Red Sox hat. Have you ever watched curling during the Olympics? Well, you can give it a try too. We’ll have details soon.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Take care out there and have a great day!
