Nevada football coach Brian Polian was in town Monday at the Carson Valley Inn for the Quarterback Club Luncheon. He spent a good deal of time explaining his philosophies and breaking down game film from last week’s overtime loss to San Diego State, but the most interesting piece of information to me was that with the bye week this week, he’ll be out at some local games to take a look at area prospects while his assistants are out on the road.

All I’m going to say about that is I’ve been covering high school football in the area for going on 14 years now, and this will be the first time I’m aware of that Nevada’s head coach will be at a Northern Nevada high school game. The full story from yesterday’s luncheon is here.

Scott Neuffer’s story on being young and in business during the Great Recession was posted last night. If you haven’t read it yet, here it is. It’s worth the 5-10 minutes to read.

On the weather front, we’re looking at a high of 67 today. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 50 percent chance of rain tomorrow, with the potential that it turns into snow Wednesday night.

Daytime highs will stick around in the low 60s through the beginning of next week, with overnight lows consistently close to freezing.

The Douglas High girls tennis team hosts a first-round playoff match against Spanish Springs today.

The Douglas girls soccer team hosts North Valleys at 3:30 p.m. (JV at 5 p.m.) and the volleyball team travels to Carson tonight, with varsity starting at 6 p.m. (JV 4:45, freshmen 3:45).

That’s a full lid for this morning, make sure to check back for any updates throughout the day.
