Girls Golf: Douglas wraps up season in second place
It was a strange combination of everyone stepping up their game in the Sierra League girls golf finale on Monday afternoon.
The Douglas High girls squad posted its best score of the season (365), but finished fourth in the league tournament at Rosewood Lakes behind Manogue, Wooster and Carson. Douglas had been averaging a second-place finish in prior tournaments, and finished second in the overall league standings for the regular season.
“Wooster and Carson really stepped it up this week,” Douglas coach Steve Gustafson said. “The nice thing is we were able to see the regional course. We considered this a practice round.
“The kids learned from this experience and will head into regionals focused on course management and avoiding the wetlands that surround virtually every hole.”
Douglas’ Koko Terada was fifth overall, shooting an 81. Molly Jordan was 10th at 88, Mari Pimental shot a 98, as did Rachel Murphey, Emily Gosselin shot a 100 and Carly Talia shot a 106.
Manogue won the team league championship and Wooster’s Staci Ludwig won the individual championship. Manogue’s Carly Farthing was the regular season runner-up.
Regionals will be at Rosewood Lakes Tuesday and Wednesday, with tee times starting at 10 a.m.
