Y’all have been capturing some incredible sunrises this week. Gary Jessup sent in his second stunner of the week this morning. Many thanks to Gary.

The owners of Silver Strike Lanes have issued a statement on the closing of the bowling alley. You can view it here.

It was a busy afternoon in sports yesterday. We’ll be posting photos from volleyball and soccer – The Douglas varsity girls soccer team battled to a scoreless tie with Carson in Carson City while the Lady Tiger volleyball team fell in three to Damonte Ranch.

The Douglas girls tennis team stayed perfect on the year with a big win over Incline — the Tigers are quickly closing in on a league title there. And the Douglas JV volleyball squad also stayed unbeaten on the year. We’ll have more on all of that later in the morning.

We’ll also start addressing what will be a very busy weekend across the Valley in terms of community events.

We turned off and flushed our sprinkler system yesterday and rolled up the garden hoses for the year. I don’t know if this was advisable or not, but I always do it a couple days before the first forecasted overnight low below 32.

Along those lines, look for a high of 70 today with breezy conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Fire Warning from 2 to 9 p.m. with gusts up to 30 mph. Daytime temps are on a hard line into the mid to high 60s through next week, while we’ll approach, or drop below freezing, starting Thursday and Friday night.

The Douglas County Public Library in Minden presents An Evening with Local Authors from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. tonight. This free event will feature appearances by Todd Borg and Mike White. Other participating authors include: David Antonucci, Gary Cage, Bob Chambers, Luke Hart, Ron James, Sandie La Nae, Christy Olesen, Josée Perrine, Jodie Ruana, and Luther Watson. They will sell their books, meet readers, and sign autographs.

That’s a full lid for this morning. Check back throughout the day for more!
