Carson Valley Times contributing photographer Brad Cockman, who also works on the MS Dixie at the Lake, sent in this photo taken with his cell phone of last night’s sunset.

Valley resident Chris Dickerson, who we are following this week at the Reno Air Races, sent in a report of yesterday’s qualifying sessions.
Dickerson is the crew chief for Formula 1 racer Madness No. 87.  The plane was fastest in its class during qualifying, but suffered major mechanical issues with its new race engine on Monday.

“We had to tear it down, and we are going to fly parts to the engine shop in California for machining repair Tuesday morning,” Dickerson said. “Then we’ll fly the parts back and work all night rebuilding the engine for the first day of racing.AirRaces2-cvt-091013Dickerson
“We did get fastest in qualifying, but should have been faster. The new race engine began to fail.”
We wish them the best of luck in getting everything repaired in time.
The Douglas girls golf team placed second at its opening tournament of the season Monday. We’ll have more on that a little later in the morning.
