Carson Valley resident Chris Dickerson is the crew chief of the Minden-Tahoe Airport-based IF1 racer Madness No. 87 that will be competing at the Reno Air Races this week.
Qualifying and practice for the air races began Sunday in Reno. Racing officially starts Wednesday.
Dickerson, who runs Sierra 4×4, and his crew, including his son, Mitchell, have been spending long days at the Stead Airport in preparation for the races.

The aircraft was rebuilt by Dickerson and his late father, Chuck, in 2006 at the airport in Minden when they ran an aircraft shop – Air Sierra Unlimited – there. The shop has since closed, but the owner of the plane,  incline’s Steve Temple, still runs the Air Sierra Unlimited stickers on the tail section of the plane, along with an “In Memoriam”  of Chuck Dickerson father on the wing.
Ly-Con built the engine for Madness No. 87. For more information on this week’s air races, visit http://www.airrace.org/
