Douglas volleyball wins bracket at Las Vegas tourney
The Douglas High volleyball team got its season off to a very strong start, winning the Silver Division at the Las Vegas Invitational Volleyball Tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Tigers posted a 6-2 record on the weekend and gained valuable experience for the season going forward.
Douglas’ Ariah Barth earned All-Tournament honors after posting 45 kills (.579 hitting percentage) with 14 aces and 16 digs.
Douglas opened the tournament beating Boulder City (25-12, 25-15) and Polytechnic (25-19, 25-21) before getting swept by Foothill.
The Tigers rebounded to sweep Western 25-20, 25-21 to round out pool play with a 3-1 record.
Douglas fell to Gregori 25-10, 25-15 in the first round of bracket play, but came back to defeat Skyline in three (25-17, 20-25, 15-12) and Las Vegas (25-16, 25-21) to advance to the Silver division title game.
There, Douglas defeated Foothill 25-11, 26-27, 20-18 to claim the championship.
Kristina Barnum hit .520 for the tournament with 38 kills and five digs. Katie McCullough had 29 mills with two aces, 13 blocks, three digs and an assist,
Shelby Van Winkle had 17 kills (.417 hitting percentage), 10 aces, two blocks, six digs and 95 assists. Jessa Gansberg had 12 kills, an ace and four blocks. Nikki Hamada dished out 40 assists to go with two aces and five digs, Bailey Gansberg had seven assists and five digs and Mandy Weaver had 15 kills (.550 hitting percentage), two aces, a block and an assist.
Maddy Strauss had 36 digs to go with a kill, three aces and two assists, Shay Worley had nine aces and 10 digs, Sydne Huck had two kills, three aces and a block, Sage Pintler had five aces and five digs, Hailee Porras had three kills, an ace and five digs and Maddy Lowe had a kill, an ace and eight digs.
