Fatal shooting reported in the Gardnerville Ranchos

UPDATE: Tuesday morning at 8:41 a.m.:

On Monday night at approximately 9:40 pm, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Angora Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos, reference a call of shots fired.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased male lying in the driveway at the residence. An adult female was also present.

The male was identified as 37 year-old David Woffinden. The female was identified as David’s 34-year-old wife.

Initial investigation revealed they had been engaged in a verbal argument, during which time David retrieved a handgun from the residence. When the argument escalated, David shot at his wife with a single shot, striking her in the leg. Investigators believe Woffinden then turned the gun on himself, shooting himself with a single shot to the chest.

David Woffinden died at the scene. His wife was transported by paramedics to the Carson Valley Medical Center where she was treated for her injury.

At first response, a suspect was reported to have fled the scene in a grey Durango.

Angora Drive was closed to through traffic for a good portion of the night.
