We had quite the light show across the Valley, starting at about 9:30 p.m. last night. Some of you thought to grab your cameras and came away with some incredible photos (click here).

I, on the other hand, grabbed my cell phone (with its three-second time delay on the camera) and thought for some reason that would be the ideal tool for taking pictures of lightning. Here was my best picture:

Yep.

Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch was tracking multiple wildfires during and after the storm across the region.

Most notably, one that was quickly mopped up in Jobs Peak Ranch Estates and a 10-by-10 fire 2/3 of the way up Jobs Peak that crews were keeping an eye on as of 2:16 this morning.

On the news front, The Record-Courier reported yesterday that the man killed in last week’s three-car accident south of town on Highway 395 was Minden resident Kendrick P. Schumacker, 53. He was a manager at the Ironwood Cinemas. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this time. Again, whenever you are out on the roads, be careful and pay attention and focus on the road.

As we said in the today’s forecast, most of Western Nevada is on flash flood watch today, with storms expected to roll in after 10 a.m. or so.

The Minden Farmers Market is this afternoon at 4 p.m. on Esmeralda Avenue, Minden. Later tonight, the Nature Conservancy and the Carson Valley Trails Association will host a full moon walk at the River Fork Ranch (381 Genoa Lane) from 8:45 to 10 p.m. The hike is one mile and families can watch the moon rise. Bring a flashlight! For more information, visit carsonvalleytrails.org.
