With a National Weather Service heat advisory in effect through the weekend and temps expected to reach at least 101, we really want to know what you do to beat the heat during weeks like this.

We’re particularly interested in how the solid portion of homes without air conditioning handles it. We want your tips. Send us your pictures. Where are your getaway spots? How do you handle preparing dinner? Does anyone use the damp sheet in an open window trick? (we used to!)

If what you do works for you, it’ll probably work for a whole lot of others as well. E-mail joey@carsonvalleytimes.com or post your pictures, videos and ideas to facebook.com/cvalleytimes. Get creative and don’t be afraid to be funny!

We’ll post our favorites on this page throughout the weekend. Here are some early returns:

From Liz Biasotti, Johnson Lane: Who needs a big pool! We bought this little pool for our dogs to use to cool off but it works for little boys too. Dylan Biasotti and Evan Gray grabbed their Legos, pulled the pool into the sun to warm up the water and had a great time!

Tips from Steve Le Cheminant: Raise thermostat into mid 80’s on triple digit days.  Cool house, at night, by opening windows.  Use swamp cooler when possible.  Take in a movie in the afternoon.  Drive to Lake Tahoe and enjoy the cooler temps.

Keep them coming!
