The Carson Valley winds put a damper on containment hopes for the lightning-caused Bison Fire Sunday  afternoon, pushing flames northeast and growing the fire to an estimated 9,000-plus acres with a loss of commercial structure, although the exact number is unknown.

The latest release projects containment of the fire to next Sunday (July 14). Earlier in the weekend, the intial projection had been set for today.

The good news is that no further thunderstorms are expected in the Valley this week. We’re looking at a high of 93 today, though the afternoon winds will continue to be strong, ranging between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph at times.

The Carson Valley Little League 11-12-year-old All-Stars completed their run through the elimination bracket last night at the Nevada District I tournament in Carson City, defeating South Tahoe 4-2 to advance to the district finals. Those begin Tuesday night, also in Carson City, against Reno Continental.

The Carson Valley Girls Softball Association will host the state softball tournament this weekend at Stodick Park, with games all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And don’t forget the Death Ride is this weekend in Alpine County, so if you are planning on driving out west on Highway 88 on Saturday, be prepared for some delays. We’ll keep you updated on road closures.
