A goat off of Highway 88 yesterday.

It is Independence Day today, and as my computer informed me this morning, it is Independence Day all day.

As you are out celebrating today, and if you get the chance, take the time to thank those who have served our country’s military services in whatever capacity. And to those police officers and firefighters who so readily contribute to protecting our freedoms back home.

Coming up today

Our schedule of events today is posted here.

And today’s weather forecast is posted here.

What you might have missed yesterday

BLM and Carson City Fire were working a wildland fire on Tarnahan Hill Wednesday evening. The fire quickly grew to 100 acres according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch after sparking around 7:30 p.m., but was in no immediate threat to structures. Sierra Front has not posted an update on the fire yet this morning but there is still a good amount of haze over that direction.

The large plume of smoke last night caused several reports from within the Valley and East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts initially responded. Due to the remote location, access to the fire was difficult, forcing attack solely from hand crews and aircraft.

Also Wednesday, civilians reportedly extinguished a 10×10 fire at the Mexican Dam after smoke was reported at approximately 8:30 p.m. Crews responded and confirmed containment of the fire.
